TOP 5 FREE ACTIVITIES TO DO FOR FUN
Free Fun!
If there is one thing that my wife and I are particularly good at, it’s keeping our entertainment budget under control. We just don’t spend a lot of money going out and doing things.
Now, that’s not to say we don’t see friends and family. We get out of the house plenty! But when we do, it’s typically not going to cost us any money.
Let me share with you some of the free activities my family does for fun!
Free Activity #1: Visit With Friends and Family
Probably at the the top of our list of ways to have fun without necessarily spending money is to visit with family and friends.
This can take on many forms.
We may have grandparents over to see our daughter. Sometimes we visit with family on Sunday afternoons before the start of a busy work week. Other times we’ll invite long-time friends over just to visit on a Friday night to relax at the end of the week.
Obviously, you can adapt this based on your situation, but just visiting with family and friends is one of the best ways to have a good time for free!
Free Activity #2: Board Games
Of course, when visiting with family and friends you may want to have some way to pass the time aside from conversation. Board games are a great way to do this!
I can’t begin to tell you the fun evenings my wife and I have had playing board games with friends. You can choose something simple like “Exploding Kittens” (a personal favorite) and play multiple rounds. You might also get wild and spend the whole evening playing one good game of “Catan” (worth the price tag).
Regardless of your preference, board games are always a great source of free entertainment!
Free Activity #3: Yard Games
Following right up on board games, you should also consider adding some outdoor fun to your free activities list.
My friends and family have long been a fan of corn hole. (If you aren’t familiar with this game, I’ll need you to go ahead and do some research on that. You’re missing out.) But maybe you’re more of a badminton family. Or volleyball. Or horse shoes. And on and on.
The point is, there are plenty of fun activities you can do right in your own yard with your family or a few friends that cost you nothing!
Free Activity #4: Go On A Walk
While you’re outside playing games, why not go for a walk?
Let’s all own up to it. We all need to get up and get moving more. And a walk doesn’t cost you anything. If you live in a good walking neighborhood, it’s as easy as throwing on shoes and heading out the door.
In our town, we have a fantastic greenway complete with playgrounds and parks. If you live in a town or city of any size, you may have something similar. Check it out!
Walks on a local greenway or in a park can be a fantastic way to have some free fun!
Free Activity #5: Go On A Drive
I saved this for last, but it really is a favorite of my wife and I.
If all else fails, jump in the car and go for a ride. Something about just driving around taking in the scenery really creates a great opportunity to talk and dream together. We love doing this!
If you’ve never loaded your family in the car for a scenic drive around your town, give it a try!
Wrapping Up
This list represents some of our personal favorite ways to have fun without spending any money. I know there are many more, and I’m sure I’ll write about those eventually too.
In the meantime, try out some of these ideas in the next two weeks or so instead of the family movie night at the theater. Your budget will thank you!
Regardless of your money goals, you can “Bank on a Budget” to get you from where you are to where you want to be!
