HOW TO EAT FOR $20 A WEEK EASILY- LUNCH AND BREAKFAST

Eat For $20 A Week

Cheap Eating

I know what you’re thinking. “Eat for $20 a week? Breakfast AND Lunch? No way.”

Yes way.

When my wife and I got serious about our finances and really cutting costs, it quickly became apparent to us that our food budget would be one of the easiest places to trim back. So we got to work, and we got creative.

This post will offer you a simple menu that will cover breakfast and lunch for one adult for $20 a week. It is doable! Don’t believe me? Read on!

Eat For $20 A Week: Breakfast Ideas

Just because it’s the most important meal of the day doesn’t mean it needs to be expensive. Think simple for breakfast.

We’re big fans of breakfast bar type items for our breakfast. Something we can grab in a hurry is a win.

I know, I know, sitting down for breakfast at the table is a great relaxing way to start the day and all that. But here’s the deal. That snooze button gets hit sometimes, and a quick breakfast is still going to fill you up.

My go-to is belVita breakfast biscuits. If you buy the value pack at Walmart, these come in at just $0.50 a piece.

If you need a little something extra to carry you until lunch, grab a banana to go with those. Again, Walmart grocery lists bananas as $0.24 a piece.

And of course you need coffee, right. I know I do. For that, I again turn to Walmart Grocery and the Great Value brand version of Donut Shop K-cups. When you buy in bulk, these come in at only $0.26 each! Beat that Starbucks!

So, a breakfast of belVita breakfast biscuits and a banana can easily come in (pre-tax) at around $1.00 a day and be plenty filling!

$7 down, $13 to go.

Eat For $20 A Week: Lunch Ideas

Now I know we all want our lunch to be a little more hefty than breakfast, so let’s take a look at what we might throw together.

I like to start with a sandwich. You can purchase enough bread for the week by picking up Lewis Bake Shop 35 calorie bread at Walmart Grocery for $2.00. Add to that a $4.43 Great Value Thin Sliced Honey Ham Family Pack (or similar meat) and a 12-pack of $1.98 Great Value Deli Style Sliced Provolone Cheese and you’ve got sandwiches for the week for about $0.90 a day!

To go with your sandwich, grab some Great Value Barbecue Flavored Potato Chips for $1.18, a 12-pack of Great Value On-the-Go Tubes of Strawberry & Blueberry Flavored Lowfat Yogurt for $1.18, and a value pack of 24 Great Value Chewy Variety Pack Granola Bars for $3.26. When you break down the cost per meal of these items, you get chips, yogurt, and a granola bar for about $0.40 a day!

Putting that all together, you can eat a sandwich, chips, a granola bar, and yogurt for lunch for about $1.30 a day! That’s $9.10 per week!

The “Eat For $20 A Week” Breakfast and Lunch Menu

So let’s look at our menu:

Breakfast = $1.00 Daily

ItemDaily Cost
belVita Breakfast Biscuits$0.50
Banana$0.24
Donut Shop K-Cup Coffee$0.26

Lunch = $1.30 Daily

ItemDaily Cost

If you’re doing the math here, you’ve probably figured that we’ve only spent about $16. Part of the remaining $20 is going to taxes. I usually also grab some apples for snacking on either between breakfast and lunch or between lunch and dinner.

Conclusion

I have done this myself, so please don’t think this is some sort of impossible feat. I’m speaking from experience here. You can eat this plan and feel good about your budget while also still feeling satisfied.

And there you have it! As promised, a meal plan to keep your breakfast and lunch expenses under $20 a week!
